Map the sunlight reaching your balcony

Observe direct rays at the pot across one clear day. This describes exposure; it does not track the sun or select a plant for you.

1 How long do direct rays reach the pot?
2 When is it strongest?
3 Is the light blocked or filtered?

Watch the actual spot

Balcony light changes by hour and season.

How to make the observation useful

Check the exact place where the pot sits in the morning, around midday and later in the afternoon. Record direct rays rather than general sky brightness. Buildings, balcony roofs, trees, screens and seasonal sun angles can change the result, so repeat the check after a major seasonal or layout change.

Light through glass, reflected heat and container temperature can matter even when the duration band sounds similar. Treat the result as one observation alongside the plant’s condition and reviewed species guidance.
